What is a typical work day for you?
It would be easy to spend all day at my desk, but it’s the other parts of my day that give me the most happiness. I love greeting students and parents, talking to students about their learning, collaborating on planning and leading learning for teachers.

What was the first thing that caught your interest in teaching??
I’ve always wanted to be a teacher. My teaching career started in a community nursery that supports young children with additional needs. I switched to primary education in Parramatta Diocese over 15 years ago and have never looked back.
I’ve been a senior manager since the beginning of 2020. It’s been an interesting start, with the challenges of COVID-19 emerging. The role combines my passion for making a positive difference and educational leadership.
What do you like most about the job?
I love people – my colleagues, my students, parents and the wider community. The sense of belonging and community is very satisfying.
What is the most unexpected thing you have had to do in your job?
The management of COVID-19 was certainly unexpected. I needed to change my expectations for the role and the kind of leader I would be. I had to make quick decisions in an ever-changing environment and find creative ways to make families feel welcome and appreciated. Lately, unexpected daily treats continue to surprise me, including dressing up as Mr. Potato Head for a dance challenge.
What’s the worst thing you’ve had to do?
The hardest part of a principal’s job is when there is a tragedy within the school community. As educators, helping others is at our core, and when there is tragedy, we feel powerless.
What challenges have you faced during the pandemic?
We quickly moved to online learning, although it was a steep learning curve for some teachers and families. We provided families with devices and internet access when needed. The biggest challenge was keeping students and families feeling connected. We’ve done live streams for reunions, sports lessons, and social gatherings, including disco games and trivia games.
