Arsenal and Chelsea win as Manchester United lose points

Chelsea are unbeaten in six matches since Potter replaced Thomas Tuchel at Stamford Bridge and the victory over Villa was their fifth in a row in all competitions.

They were given a helping hand by their hosts with Mount cashing in a horribly misguided defensive header from Tyrone Mings in the sixth minute.

Villa responded well and created several good chances before the break but was frustrated by Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, who made a series of balls including a miracle to deny Danny Ings an equaliser.

Any hope of salvaging something of the match disappeared in the 65th minute when Mount’s free kick defrauded goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.

Al-Nassr left Chelsea in fourth place with 19 points from nine matches, four points behind London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

Villa sit 16th, one point above the relegation zone, as pressure mounts on manager Steven Gerrard who mocked Chelsea fans throughout the match.

Manchester United and Newcastle go down on points

Manchester United and shy Cristiano Ronaldo couldn’t find a way to beat Newcastle United at Old Trafford with a goalless draw.

Showing the passion and toughness that their hosts sometimes lack, Eddie Howe’s Newcastle had their best chance of the match with two extraordinary headers from Jullinton in the first half that came first off the crossbar and then off the post.

Newcastle’s Callum Wilson also received a strong penalty that was denied.

He celebrated before the match by scoring 700 goals for the club in his career, and Ronaldo twice netted the ball. But he was offside initially, while the second goal was disallowed when he rudely kicked the ball from Newcastle to hit the ball into the net after claiming that a free kick had been taken.

Ronaldo has scored only two goals this season for Manchester United, with some critics already proclaiming the twilight of his brilliant career.

The result left Manchester United in fifth place with 16 points, while Newcastle ranked sixth with 15 points with another match played

West Ham and Southampton in a dead end

Declan Rice smashed a curling ball from outside the penalty area to secure West Ham United a point in a 1-1 draw with Southampton.

Skipper Rice expertly bent in his 64th minute attempt to give the visitors a well-earned share of the spoils after Roman Perot put the Saints ahead in the 20th minute.

The equalizer ended a run of four defeats in a row for Southampton, but the point and performance did not relieve the pressure on beleaguered coach Ralph Hessenhuttl.

They remained in third place with eight points, while West Ham climbed to 11th place with 11 points from their first 10 games of the season.
