I try to be at peace with myself and the world around me

Attached to my kitchen door on a yellowed A4 sheet are the following words:

Did you win today or lose it?
Was it well or badly spent?
Did you leave a trace of kindness?
Or a resentment scar?

I discovered these anonymous words on one of my nighttime outings on social media. I am a magpie collector of various sayings, mantras, affirmations and brief phrases, all intended to remind me to do my best; To be a person at peace with myself, others, and the world around me. Archived in my heart.

Poet Philip Larkin reminds us that we live all our days. The shape of those days, the shape we make of them, defines everything around us.

If I take out my anger, disappointment, or temporary hatred for another person, I shape what happens not only to myself but to everyone around me. I’m setting the climate.

Teachers often talk about classroom climate. This climate can be shaped – and changed – by the personal atmosphere the teacher brings into it. This, combined with the unique microclimate of each student in the class, can create a look that is fair and cool or flaky and choppy. The same applies to any workplace. Each of us can change the climate with our mood, mood or attitude.

War or peace begins in our hearts. It is not good to preach peace and good will to all if we continue to bear the hurt and insults, the thorny shards of envy, the joy of schadenfreude, the trivial victory over a fellow, and the injustice we have left because we have not spoken. . We do not have peace if we do not forgive others. We do not have peace if we do not forgive ourselves. We do not carry peace if we do not seek forgiveness from God.

Each of us can change the climate with our mood, mood or attitude.

At Mass every week we remember to go in peace to love and serve the Lord. This peace is not just to feel good for a few hours and then resume aggressive, frustrating or belittling behaviors around us.
