Jack Miller’s legacy takes a turn in honoring Phillip Island

For once, Jack Miller lost words. The Australian motorcyclist has just been told that Turn 4 of the Phillip Island Grand Prix circuit will forever be known as Miller Corner, with an official ceremony taking place at his home at this weekend’s Grand Prix.

Forget talking. This was a time when simply composing his thoughts was more difficult than anything he was going to do on the right track this weekend.

“Words can’t even describe it – this is probably the most beautiful gesture I’ve had in my career,” said the four-time MotoGP winner.

“On my favorite track, in the corner where my family has always sat on my career… to be known as Miller’s Corner long after my career is over and I’m an old man watching races on TV, it’s more than I could ever dream of.”

The fourth transformation has been unofficially known as Miller Corner since the Australian appeared on the MotoGP scene in 2015, with hundreds of family and friends from his native Townsville and relatives from New Zealand in action, wearing merchandise bearing Miller’s signature orange colors and the “Jackass” logo.

Miller became the fourth Australian rider to own a section of one of the world’s most revered motorcycle circuits that was renamed in her honor. The Phillip Island straight starting point is known as the Gardner Straight, after 1987 500cc World Champion Wayne Gardner, while the fearsomely fast first bend at the straight end is Doohan Corner, honoring the achievements of five-time 500cc World Champion Mick Doohan.

The third turn of the circuit was renamed Stoner Corner, in recognition of the accomplishments of two-time MotoGP champion and six-time race winner Casey Stoner, in 2012.
