Saka’s penalty ensured Arsenal beat Liverpool, Palace beat Leeds

A very good palace in Leeds

Eberechi Eze’s late goal secured Crystal Palace’s 2-1 victory over Leeds United.

The guests took an early lead through Pascal Struyck, reacting first after Brenden Aaronson’s stunning shot and the shot off the post.

Leeds striker Patrick Bamford, making his first match since August, missed a superb opportunity to double the visitors’ lead, a waste that proved costly when Palace equalized with an Odsonney Edward header in the 24th minute.

Palace was much better in the second half but struggled to smash the resolute Leeds until Ise picked up the ball on the edge of the penalty area, threw a dummy and smashed the ball into the net in the 76th minute.

The away team kept coming, but could not pay their pressure, Palace moved out of the relegation zone and climbed to 15th in the table, tied by nine points with Leeds one place above them.

Controversy in West Ham

Gianluca Scamaca scored a superb but controversial goal to help West Ham win three wins in a week by beating Fulham 3-1.

The Italian striker, who scored against Wolverhampton last week and at Anderlecht in the European Conference League midweek, showed his composure in front of goal with a daring shot over Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno to make it 2-1.

Skamaka barely celebrated, suggesting that he sensed something was amiss, but the goal survived an initial VAR check for offside and then a lengthy second review of the ball that looked like it was slipping past the striker’s fingers after he took control of it.

The goal was scored and led to the collapse of the touchline from Fulham coach Marco Silva, who was cautioned for his angry protests.

Fulham had gone ahead with Andreas Pereira’s first goal for the club, but when he foolishly missed a penalty, Jarrod Bowen equalized with a penalty kick.

Scamaka’s goal then allowed West Ham to take control before his replacement, Mikhail Antonio, added the third goal in stoppage time.
