Keynote David Warner snatched Australia’s win over the West Indies in the Twenty20 over 31 races on Friday, but No6 batsman Tim David’s clean-kick will have the biggest implications for the World Cup.
The West Indies, limited to 8-147, have always been off the pace of Australia’s 7-178 chase.
Australian left-armer Mitchell Stark (4-20 from four overs) brought back the best characters of his career and got rid of the screaming and throwing of a caught player to cash opener Kyle Myers.
Earlier, Warner (75 of 41 balls) gave Australia’s innings impetus with an overbearing style but David (42 of 20) showed his impressive finish with three sixes in a powerful cameo.
David and Steve Smith, who finished fourth, are both in Australia’s World Cup squad and could fight for a regular spot in the middle standings.

Smith (17 of 16) struggled at the end of the innings, while David thrived and put pressure on both sides of Australia. The Mumbai Indians have signed the 26-year-old for $1.5 million at the 2022 IPL auction to signify how much the Singapore-born right-hander is valued as a T20 maker.
Australia opened with multi-tiered Cameron Green, as they did in the T20 match on Wednesday night, but only managed one game.
Green’s opening stint enjoyed India in the final round, but on faster and faster bouncy pitches in Australia, he’s not yet profited.
