Brittany Higgins told a court that she made classified recordings of conversations with former Coalition Secretary Michaelia Cash and her Chief of Staff Daniel Grebb about her sexual assault allegations and distributed them “to as many people as possible” for safekeeping, including a journalist.
Higgins worked for Cash after the 2019 election, having previously worked with Linda Reynolds, and alleges that another employee, Bruce Lerman, raped her in Reynolds’ office early on March 23, 2019, after a drunken night. Lerman pleaded not guilty to the sexual assault charge and denied having sex with Higgins.

Under questioning by Lerman’s attorney Stephen Wybro on the third day of the trial in ACT Supreme Court, Higgins said she released the Cash & Try recordings in the lead-up to her story being made public, and sent one copy to journalist Samantha Maiden and another to Emma Webster, of the First People’s Assembly. in Victoria.
“It was for conservation…I was trying to give it to as many people as possible,” Higgins said. “It’s my word against a government minister and the disparity between these two powers is ridiculous.”
